Shohei Ohtani has proved that more is more.

The slugging pitcher has starred with the Los Angeles Angels and will go down in history as one of the greatest two-way players in baseball. Now, San Francisco Giants first baseman Ronald Guzmán is looking to make multifaceted contributions to his team as well.

The Giants released their list of non-roster invitees, and Guzmán is listed as both a pitcher and and infielder.

Guzmán, who was signed to a minor-league deal last week, does not have any major-league pitching experience but in this Instagram video, he’s hitting 96 mph.

“I really believe I can do both,” Guzmán said, per Times-Tribune’s Conor Foley. “So, now that I’ve started doing pitching, I’m going to give it time. Obviously, if I’m good enough — I believe I’m good enough — that’s the only question, if I’m going to be able to compete at a high level. I don’t want to be just a mediocre pitcher that plays first. I want to be elite (at) pitching, elite defender and then pull some good at-bats and be an elite hitter, too.”

Guzmán made his major-league debut with the Texas Rangers in 2018 and signed a minor-league contract with the New York Yankees before the 2022 season. He was promoted in September but promptly designated for assignment, only getting in three games. With Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre last season, he slashed .255/.344/.478. with a .822 OPS.
